Originally conceived by the composer as the Finale of his String Quintet in C major G.310, this Rondo knew his highest notoriety in the 19th century thanks to Grützmacher’s setting and profound elaboration into a piece for cello and piano. A few decades later P. Bazelaire made up a more reliable version for solo cello and strings, which served as a basis for this version for 4 cellos.
